dot Google dot everything!

In order to protect its brands, Google will spend around 9.25 million dollars to buy some high level domains. Domains like .youtube .google .docs and even .lol !

Google has sent requests to ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) for around 50 domains. Each domain application costs around 185.000 dollars.

As the Google team explains these domains are chosen for several reasons: to improve user experience ( with these changes they can offer domains like www.omniworlds.youtube), to protect main businesses (.docs domains) and the domains they find funny and intersting like the .lol domain.

The purchase took place after ICANN allowed buying of top domains for everyone (We are sorry the end term was May 31st). Until now there were only several domains ( like .com .info .org .gov). 1900 requests for various domains were sent to ICANN.
